What’s Really Causing Your Pain?

It’s January! The time when many of us step back, reflect on our businesses and plan for the year ahead. As you think about what’s new, exciting, and worth investing in, take a moment to consider: What are your business’s real pain points? Are they operational, or could they actually be rooted in communication?

Too often, we jump to solutions like implementing new technologies or creating detailed plans without addressing underlying issues. For example, introducing a tool like self-scheduling for patients might seem like the perfect fix. But if your team isn’t on board or doesn’t understand the “why” behind the change, you’re likely to face resistance, and the pain point remains. No matter how advanced technology becomes, it can’t replace the core leadership skills required to effectively communicate change and lead your team through it.

This year, instead of looking outward for solutions, consider looking inward. How well are you communicating expectations, changes, and goals to your team? Strong leadership and clear communication can transform challenges into opportunities without adding new layers of complexity. Before adopting something new, take the time to build on the strengths and resources you already have.

Let’s make 2025 the year we solve the root of our problems, not just the symptoms.

About Amy Lafko

As a Physical Therapist, Amy spent years in school learning best practices for patient care and how to put the patient first. Like so many technically skilled clinicians, she advanced to a leadership role. Spending 20+ years in operational leadership, she had an epiphany: Putting the customer first isn’t the path to success or fulfillment. Rather, the most successful organizations and practices put their people first – and exceptional customer care, profitability, and effectiveness naturally followed.
